International Research Groups

ENGLOBE concentrates on four interrelated and interdisciplinary key aspects within Global History: Knowledge, Perception, Values, and Evolution.

These key aspects are conceptualized through the comparative history and transfers of knowledge and sciences, comparative patterns of perception, values in hybrid cultural spaces, and extra-European and European approaches to the key concept “evolution”.

Each work group approaches these concepts with transversal, methodological research objectives.  These objectives include collecting key works and methodologies on Global History, mapping views on Europe and the European Enlightenment from the outside, comparing forms of Enlightenment beyond the European Enlightenment, identifying the compatibility and incompatibility of values and standards, analyzing forms of cultural and religious ascriptions, and discussing the problems of defining “European” and “extra-European”.
