Ranked high among international universities, the University of Coimbra is not only revered by its home of Portugal but also within the international community.  Pursuing the advancement of research and knowledge, as well as business and industry, the University fosters future leaders within the sciences and other fields of advanced education.

The University of Coimbra recieves and sends approximatly 500 students per year through the international exchange program, Socrates-Erasmus.  The Department of History belongs to the CLIOH/CLIOHRESNET network and participated in the both the Transnational European Evaluation Project (1996) and the Intensive Program on European Identity and Multiculturalism.  UC also connects beyond Europe, namely with Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking communities.
